Writing Paper Machine Technology: Where Surface Quality Meets Production Efficiency
Writing and printing paper — copier paper, bond paper, notebook paper, and offset printing grades — demands the most exacting combination of properties of any commodity paper grade: high brightness (80–88% ISO), uniform basis weight (±2 GSM), smooth surface (Bekk smoothness above 60 seconds), low two-sidedness, and consistent dimensional stability for trouble-free laser printing and offset press performance. Rajshree Group's writing paper machines are engineered specifically to deliver these properties reliably at production speeds of 150–350 m/min across the full 24×7 operating cycle.
The headbox is the most critical quality-determining section of a writing paper machine. Rajshree's hydraulic headbox designs use a manifold-tube bank-slice architecture that delivers stock to the forming wire at machine speed with cross-direction (CD) consistency coefficient below 1.5% — achieving the basis weight uniformity that determines whether the finished paper meets or fails premium copier and print grade specifications.
Surface sizing — the application of starch solution to the paper surface — is a standard feature on Rajshree's writing paper machines above 60 GSM basis weight. Our size press (puddle or film type depending on speed and starch penetration requirements) improves surface strength, reduces linting on printing machines, and significantly enhances inkjet and laser print quality. The sizing system is integrated with the dryer section design for energy-efficient drying of the sized web.
Rajshree's writing paper machines produce paper meeting IS 1848 (Indian Standard for writing and printing paper) and ISO 12647 print substrate specifications. Basis weight CV (coefficient of variation) below 1.8%, moisture at reel of 4.5–5.5%, and Cobb60 below 25 g/m² are routinely achieved on our commissioned machines — meeting the quality thresholds required for leading Indian stationery and paper brands.
